How to Choose a Weight Loss Programme


The day you make a decision to lose weight, you will inevitably have to choose a diet that will not only do the magic but be a diet and exercise programme that will be stimulating and acceptable.  If you start with a poor choice in the first place, you will most likely drop it which would result in a wasted effort where you weight loss is concerned.   Here are some things to think about..

The most efficient and easiest way to lose with is to follow a weight loss programme.  This is a case for at least most of them.  These programmes are all around us in; books, online weight loss programmes, on TV, etc.  You can choose which to follow depending on your eating habits and how much you are willing to spend.

Most of us have a sedentary lifestyle, we travel to work in a car, spend our days at a desk and always tempted by tasty and cheap but unhealthy food, rich in fats and carbohydrates.   The effects can be seen in the extra pounds we gain which can range from just a few extra pounds to obesity depending on our metabolism and activities.  As obesity becomes one of the big problems in the western world, a huge industry has developed on the need for people to lose weight.  There are many products on the market, such as weight loss pills, fitness devices, electrical stimulation devices, etc.  The downside to these products is that they are not as effective and the commercials suggest and some may seriously harm your health.  It is much better to find an acceptable weight loss program and follow it step by step.

The most important part of the diet is the diet plan.  Compare this important fact with the more attractive commercial ads that producers come up with varying “secret” books, tools, analysers, motivation tips, weight loss tricks, etc.  Other programmes include weight loss support like Overeaters Anonymous or Fat Acceptance.

Review some examples of weight loss programmes:

Low Fat Diet

This recommends a diet which is low fat or no fat foods.  Reducing fat intake and regular workout causes long term weight loss.  The Low Fat Diet can be very effective it is created and supervised by a weight loss expert.  The majority of the low fat products out there reduce fat to such a low level that it is harmful to your health.  Too much carbs is also not good, which is advised in some programmes.  The Low fat diet is one of the best ways to lose weight thought it should be done in a correct manner.

High Protein Diet

This consists of taking high protein and low carb foods.  It is not an effective way to lose weight though it does results rapid weight loss from the time you start the diet.  A high protein diet does encourage taking saturated fats, which results in the increase in heart diseases.  It is known to also cause damage to kidneys, as in the absence of enough carbs, for the rapid burning of fatty acids the kidneys have to work overtime.

Fixed Menu Diet

With this, you compile a list of what you eat everyday and you set a fixed menu with what you eat.  This is so easy to follow because you to do not keep calorie of count.  The efficiency and healthiness can vary though.

Points Programme

Created by Weight Watchers, the points programme consists of qualifying the food caloric intake and your daily energy expenditure.  Different foods are assigned a specific number of points and exercises are assigned negative points.  The participants are assigned a number of points per week based on their goals and their current weight.  With this programme participants can eat any type of food but may not exceed the weekly point limit.  This is an easy to follow because of the psychological effect it has in the dieter.

Food Optimizing

Created by Slimming World, dieters and weighed and the changed in weight is shared with others.  This diet is a calorie restricted.  In this, the foods with low calorie content are referred to as “free foods” which may be eaten in restricted unrestricted amounts.  It is recommended eating four small portions per day of foods that provide supplies of minerals, vitamins or dietary fibre even if these are higher in calories.  Days are in two categories, there are red day’s free foods and green days free foods, and all other foods are assigned a syn value.

Most of us know the do’s and don’ts to lose weight but it is much easier to use a precise weight loss remedy, this way we are guaranteed to get determined.

One of the fundamental facts is not to expect short term miracle results.  Although there are methods that guarantee this, there is a danger of causing injury to your health and you will only enjoy short term results with them.  A good remedy should include the recommended daily allowances for vitamins, minerals and proteins.  The remedy should also offer solutions for maintenance after the phase of losing weight is over and this is a lot difficult than the weight loss itself.  An important fact to bear in mind is only healthy eating habits and work out are the primary ways to lose weight.

  1. This book was a Godsend! My aunt told me about it, so I tried it using her suggestions, and after I lost 4 lbs in one week I decided I would buy the book. I went on to lose another 30 lbs in 3 months (who says this doesn’t work?!). I also kept it off for an entire year. I started stress eating, so I’m going back to reading the book again to get back on track. The recipes are so good, even my kids like them! I also have Get Skinny on Fabulous Foods, and just put in my order for her new book.
